Which camera is best for me?

Cameras:

Photography is generally an expensive hobby. When it comes to cameras, it's a lot like anything else in life: the more expensive one is always the better one - no matter if it's Canon, Nikon Sony or Fuji. So it largely depends on your budget!

Canon & Nikon SA have recently decided to remove all old model DSLR cameras from their shelves, and henceforth only sell "mirrorless" cameras. Unfortunately, this means that your old DSLR camera (e.g. Canon 600D or Nikon D5200 and their lenses) will only be found second-hand somewhere. Many photographers still prefer the old DSLR camera and the camera and its lenses will still be used for many years to come.

If you want to start photography now, you must buy a "mirrorless" camera, with its matching lenses (the old DSLR lenses will not fit on it - unless you buy an "adapter").

When you buy a new camera, the most important question is: What is the camera's ISO? In other words, how much light can the camera give. The better camera's ISO will always be higher. Personally, I'd suggest you look at a Canon R50 or M50, or if you prefer Nikon, look at a Z50 - I really like them - they are value for money! (Nikon and its accessories are always more expensive than Canon - for no particular reason.)

If you are interested in a Nikon camera, make sure to ask the shop assistant if the spesific camera is HSS (High Speed Sync) compatible.

(Preferably, stay away from a Canon 2000D, 4000D or 250D, as well as the Nikon coolpix-series for specific reasons.)

I import a lot of the equipment to keep costs as low as possible. Please read more below.

Laptops:

Most laptops from the last 5 years will be able to handle the latest software (Lightroom & Photoshop) that photographers use on a daily basis. But if you want to buy a new laptop, you need speed and space. Look at a laptop with: 16G RAM and 1TB SSD.

If you still feel uncertain, come and attend my Beginners Photography class and borrow a camera from me for the day, and I will show you precisely what you need for what you specifically want to do.
